Suite* is a collaboration between La Caja and LEA, two spaces committed to contemporary creation that come together to promote groundbreaking site-specific projects. These projects are carried out by selected LEA artists and exhibited in a very unique space within La Caja, located on Fernando VI Street.
Focused on pure process, this work presents adobe blocks (an ancestral technique and an organic material used for self-sustaining bioconstruction for millennia, still in use today) that are conceived as relics of a traditional craft. Among its variations, this type of adobe is made of loam-clay soil, water, and horse manure, the latter providing a large amount of plant fiber that gives the mixture its structure. All materials are gathered from the surrounding environment, mixed by hand, and—through traditional stomping—molded with the help of an *adobera*, then left to compact outdoors for weeks. The process, with its decelerated rhythm—opposed to hyperproductivity—deeply interrelated and dependent on climate and conditions, appeals in this piece to senses beyond sight. It seeks interaction and experience through more bodily sensorialities that are commonly ignored: it has a smell, it is haptic, it has a specific tactile quality. It implies closeness and empathy, despite being composed of matter that may provoke repulsion and taking the form of a cryptic wall that pushes you away and blocks your passage.
