BICO 2025 is an artistic exchange program between Portugal and Spain, promoted by
Córtex Frontal (Arraiolos) and LEA – Lab of Experimental Art (Madrid). The first part of the program features a collaboration with
the Appleton gallery (Lisbon), hosting an exhibition featuring 18 works by Portuguese artists or artists residing in Portugal, and Spanish LEA artists (or artists residing in Spain). All selected through an open call.
The proposed theme—flying—serves as a common starting point. The aim is not to illustrate flight, but to use it as a conceptual structure: moving, crossing boundaries, occupying other spaces, imagining new forms of relationship. The works presented address flight as a physical, political, symbolic, or emotional gesture, reflecting on mobility, lightness, distance, risk, and the impulse to take off.
Following this exhibition, four artists will be selected for an artist residency in the country opposite their home country.
